Ever since the era of technology many of us in society have become skeptical and suspicious about our own government and about the things that they do behind the curtain. This is why a lot of people will tape up their webcams on their computer because they believe that the FBI is spying on them. Now normally someone that believed in this big brother type society would be since as a little crazy but thanks to some people known as Whistle Blowers, are they really that crazy? For this post I wanted to not focus on the information that these Whistle Blowers release but instead the ethical debate behind them. So for anyone who doesn't know what a Whistle Blower is they are, as stated by Wikipedia, someone who exposes secretive, illegal or unethical information within a private or public organization. One famous Whistle Blower that you might have heard of is Edward Snowden, since the point of this post is not to discuss the findings of these people I will just say that Snowden released some very secretive and unethical information from the NSA while he was working for the FBI. He is now on the run from the US government for a very long time. This information that he leaked was actually very helpful to normal US citizen because it allowed us to understand what were some of the things our government was doing behind our backs. Now after this information was released two sides were formed the first was for Snowden, they believed that what he did was for the people and that he was a hero, and that this information shouldn't have been secretive in the first place. The other side agrees with the government in saying that Snowden is a terrorist for creating this breach in US security. So are Whistle Blowers ethical? In my opinion is think they are, I think that they are vigilantes, the information that they release is only helping the normal citizen but since the go against the Government they are seen as criminals, so I think that we need a organization that legally allows these Whistle Blowers to work with out running for the rest of their lives.
